Clover Consulting, a Myticas Company, is seeking a skilled Database Administrator for a large, direct client. This position is responsible for providing Infrastructure DBA support for all SQL Server applications.
Position Summary
As a Database Administrator, you will participate in 24/7 software and hardware support for complex applications running on various versions of SQL Server, including high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) support. You will help develop and submit plans for approval regarding the installation, patch management, maintenance, upgrades, and support of database systems. Additionally, you will evaluate the impact of changes and new technologies, recommend solutions to persistent issues, and act as the Agency Services liaison to external consultants.
Responsibilities
- Enforce database standards, policies, and procedures; research and draft guidelines within the scope of current policies and standards.
- Monitor database space allocation and make adjustments in test and development environments as necessary, following predefined standards and guidelines.
- Calculate disk space requirements for existing and new installations to meet business needs.
- Modify enterprise parameters based on capacity changes.
- Configure and execute database integrity checks.
- Monitor database integrity and address any issues.
- Install database management software for development and test environments.
- Apply database patches and service packs in development and test environments.
- Support and monitor clustered database environments.
- Oversee database replication and backup environments.
- Implement strategies to release unused space and address fragmentation in test and development environments.
- Execute scripts provided by Systems Analysts or Database Architects/Designers to create and modify database objects (e.g., tables, views, constraints, indexes).
- Monitor database backups to ensure recoverability and troubleshoot backup errors.
- Monitor and troubleshoot database jobs and scheduled processes in development, test, and production environments.
- Use alert logs, trace files, and other monitoring tools to identify and resolve database functionality, connectivity, or downtime issues.
- Follow standards and guidelines for database space allocation, ensuring best practices and alignment with business requirements.
Top Skills Required
- 5+ years of experience in database administration, specifically with SQL Server 2016 and newer versions.
- 3+ years of experience creating, updating, and maintaining systems documentation.
- Expertise in high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.
- Proficiency in implementing Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) within SQL Server.
