  • Type: Contract
  • Job #35654

Myticas Consulting is seeking an experienced Solutions Architect for a long-term consulting engagement supporting a major digital transformation program within the financial services sector.

This is a hands-on architecture and technical leadership role for someone who can bridge solution architecture and software engineering. The successful candidate will work closely with developers, technical leads, product stakeholders, and platform teams to design and deliver scalable, resilient cloud-native solutions.

The ideal candidate brings strong AWS and Node.js expertise, understands modern API and event-driven architectures, and is comfortable getting close to the code to validate designs, troubleshoot complex issues, review implementation decisions, and guide development teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end solution design across application architecture, APIs, data flows, integrations, cloud infrastructure, security, observability, deployment, and production readiness.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership throughout the development and delivery lifecycle.
  • Lead and mentor development teams through complex technical implementations.
  • Partner directly with lead developers on code design, frameworks, integration patterns, error handling, security, data modelling, and non-functional requirements.
  • Design, develop, review, and optimize high-performance Node.js applications and microservices on AWS.
  • Architect serverless and event-driven solutions using AWS Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, and IAM.
  • Design scalable and reliable API integrations between internal services, enterprise systems, and third-party platforms.
  • Develop event-driven architectures leveraging SNS publish/subscribe and SQS asynchronous messaging patterns.
  • Design and optimize DynamoDB schemas, partition strategies, indexes, and query patterns.
  • Establish development standards and reusable architecture patterns and conduct critical code and design reviews.
  • Troubleshoot complex application, integration, deployment, performance, and production issues.
  • Partner with DevOps teams on CI/CD, infrastructure as code, environment promotion, monitoring, logging, rollback, and release readiness.
  • Drive performance optimization across Lambda workloads and cloud infrastructure.
  • Communicate architecture decisions, trade-offs, risks, and delivery impacts to senior business and technology stakeholders.
  • Produce technical documentation covering architecture decisions, APIs, integrations, and operational procedures.
  • Mentor developers on AWS architecture and Node.js engineering best practices.
  • Leverage modern AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code to improve SDLC productivity and engineering efficiency.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on Node.js experience in production environments.
  • Proven experience operating as a Solutions Architect, Technical Architect, Lead Architect, or similar hands-on technical leadership role.
  • Strong end-to-end solution architecture experience covering applications, APIs, integrations, data persistence, cloud services, security, observability, deployment, and production support.
  • 3+ years of financial services experience, ideally within retail banking or a large regulated financial institution.
  • Advanced knowledge of AWS cloud architecture, particularly:
    • AWS Lambda
    • API Gateway
    • SQS
    • SNS
    • DynamoDB
    • CloudWatch
    • IAM
  • Strong Node.js development experience with Express.js, NestJS, or comparable frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, API security, integration patterns, and asynchronous/event-driven architecture.
  • Deep knowledge of asynchronous JavaScript patterns including promises, async/await, and event-driven programming.
  • Strong understanding of NoSQL data modelling and DynamoDB or comparable key-value/document databases.
  • Experience conducting code reviews and establishing development and architecture standards.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, Jest/Mocha, and modern collaborative development practices.
  • Experience using or integrating AI-assisted software development tools, such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code.
  • Strong senior stakeholder communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical options, trade-offs, risks, and business implications.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and unblock technical teams in complex enterprise environments.

Highly Desirable

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified Developer certification.
  • TypeScript development experience.
  • Docker and AWS ECS/Fargate.
  • Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS SAM.
  • CloudWatch and AWS X-Ray.
  • Kafka and/or RabbitMQ.
  • GraphQL architecture and development.
