Accounting Operations Consultant (Accounts Payable & Payroll)
Our client is seeking an experienced Accounting Operations Consultant to join their finance team in a hands-on contract opportunity supporting Accounts Payable, freight accounting, financial analysis, and payroll administration within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys operational finance, thrives in a high-volume environment, and takes ownership of day-to-day accounting processes while working collaboratively with finance, logistics, shipping, and payroll teams.
Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Freight Accounting
- Manage the shared freight inbox and process incoming vendor invoices.
- Perform three-way invoice matching against purchase orders, bills of lading, and supporting documentation.
- File printed Bills of Lading (BOLs) by vendor and maintain organized freight documentation.
- Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies by working closely with freight carriers, shipping, logistics, and internal stakeholders.
- Validate, code, and post inbound and outbound freight invoices.
- Prepare detailed transaction descriptions, voucher labels, and supporting documentation.
- Submit invoices through approval workflows and ensure timely processing.
- Process freight invoices relating to RMA, customer deliveries, UPS, and other transportation providers.
- Respond to vendor inquiries regarding invoices, payments, and account discrepancies.
Financial Analysis
- Calculate and maintain freight and transportation rates.
- Analyze carrier pricing and transportation costs to identify variances and savings opportunities.
- Perform margin analysis comparing freight inbound costs against customer freight recoveries.
- Support reporting and cost analysis for Supply Chain, Logistics, and Fabric operations.
- Assist with financial reporting, reconciliations, and operational analysis as required.
Payroll Administration
- Collect, verify, and enter production timesheets for piecework employees.
- Process payroll information for Sewing, Upholstery, Packing, Sorting, and Line Loading departments.
- Maintain payroll spreadsheets and supporting documentation.
- Review, scan, and process payroll adjustment tickets.
- Prepare payroll drop sheets for production teams.
- Generate ADP Workforce Now reports for payroll processing.
General Accounting Support
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
- Support daily and month-end accounting operations through timely transaction processing.
- Provide backup support across Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions as required.
- Assist the finance team with additional accounting and administrative responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in Accounts Payable, Accounting Operations, Finance Administration, or Accounting Support.
- Experience processing high-volume invoices in a fast-paced environment.
- Hands-on experience with invoice matching, coding, reconciliations, and discrepancy resolution.
- Exposure to payroll administration, payroll data entry, or ADP Workforce Now.
- Strong understanding of financial controls and accounting processes.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience using QuickBooks.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O).
- Experience within manufacturing, distribution, logistics, or supply chain environments.
- Exposure to freight accounting, transportation costing, or logistics finance.
- Experience supporting operational finance within a high-volume business.
