Databricks Engineer / Data Engineer

Client: BDO, supporting Brookfield
Location: 100% remote; candidates across Latin America are welcome
Contract: 6 months, with potential extensions
Schedule: 37.5 hours per week
Start: ASAP

We are seeking a hands-on Databricks Engineer / Data Engineer to join an established data engineering team. You will build new data solutions and support pipelines already in production. Approximately half of the work may involve production support, though the balance will vary.

This role suits someone who enjoys both project delivery and the operational work that follows: monitoring pipelines, investigating data issues, resolving tickets and keeping systems reliable. You will also work with client stakeholders, so clear communication matters.

What you’ll do

  • Design, build and maintain data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows.
  • Develop data ingestion, transformation and orchestration processes using Databricks and cloud data tools.
  • Build and optimize data models, schemas and reporting datasets.
  • Improve pipeline performance through SQL optimization, partitioning and other tuning techniques.
  • Monitor production pipelines, troubleshoot failures and data quality issues, and resolve support tickets.
  • Maintain and improve existing solutions while delivering new project work.
  • Document solutions and apply sound data quality, governance, security and deployment practices.
  • Collaborate with engineers, analysts, business users and client stakeholders.

What you bring

  • Hands-on data engineering experience building and supporting production pipelines.
  • Practical Databricks experience with PySpark, Spark SQL, Delta Lake or notebooks.
  • Strong Python and SQL skills.
  • Experience with cloud-based data ingestion, transformation, orchestration and ETL/ELT.
  • Knowledge of data modelling, lakehouse or data warehouse concepts, and performance tuning.
  • Experience troubleshooting production issues, handling support tickets and maintaining solutions after deployment.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working with clients.

Nice to have

  • Azure Databricks, ADLS Gen2, Azure Data Factory or Azure Functions.
  • Unity Catalog, data governance or access control.
  • Snowflake, dbt or Airflow.
  • CI/CD, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions or Terraform.
  • Kafka, Event Hubs or a Databricks certification.
