FPGA Engineering Manager

Our client is seeking an experienced FPGA Engineering Manager to lead the development of next-generation broadcast and high-performance video processing solutions. This is a true engineering leadership role requiring a balance of deep FPGA expertise, people leadership, cross-functional engineering management, and product delivery.

Key Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Lead, mentor, and grow multidisciplinary engineering teams including FPGA, embedded software, board-level hardware, verification, and test engineering.
  • Provide technical and people leadership across the full product development lifecycle, from concept through production release.
  • Define and drive FPGA architecture, development methodologies, coding standards, and engineering best practices.
  • Oversee FPGA design, implementation, verification, timing closure, integration, and overall product quality.
  • Manage engineering execution, schedules, technical risks, and resource planning to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with Hardware, Software, Product Management, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, and QA teams.
  • Lead board-level hardware design activities and work closely with hardware architects on high-speed digital system development.
  • Oversee engineering test strategy, validation, verification, and test management to ensure robust product quality and reliability.
  • Drive continuous improvement through modern FPGA toolchains, automation, CI/CD practices, scripting, and engineering process optimization.
  • Maintain deep hands-on technical credibility while providing strategic engineering leadership and mentoring senior technical staff.
  • Champion innovation in high-performance FPGA-based video processing, broadcast, networking, or real-time embedded systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline (Master’s considered an asset).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in FPGA and high-speed digital hardware design, including engineering leadership responsibilities.
  • Strong experience with Xilinx Vivado, AMD/Xilinx FPGAs, Intel Quartus, ModelSim/QuestaSim, and scripting using Python and/or Tcl.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with demonstrated experience leading diverse engineering organizations beyond FPGA alone.
