Integration Lead – Java / Spring Boot

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Integration Lead – Java / Spring Boot to lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable enterprise integration solutions.

This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role requiring deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, microservices, APIs, enterprise integration, and event-driven architectures. The successful candidate will combine strong development capabilities with the ability to provide technical direction, solve complex integration challenges, and guide developers through implementation.

The Integration Lead will collaborate with engineering, architecture, product, DevOps, and other technical teams to build reliable integration services that enable seamless communication across enterprise applications and platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, implementation, and support of enterprise integration solutions using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership while actively contributing to development and implementation.
  • Design and build scalable microservices and integration services connecting enterprise applications and platforms.
  • Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and GraphQL APIs.
  • Build event-driven and asynchronous integration solutions using Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, or similar technologies.
  • Translate business and application requirements into technical designs, integration patterns, and implementation specifications.
  • Collaborate with backend, frontend, architecture, product, DevOps, and engineering teams.
  • Design integration solutions for performance, scalability, resiliency, security, and maintainability.
  • Implement effective error handling, monitoring, logging, retry, and recovery mechanisms.
  • Develop comprehensive unit tests using JUnit, Mockito, or similar frameworks.
  • Design and execute integration testing to validate end-to-end data flows between applications and microservices.
  • Lead and participate in code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards, architectural guidelines, and engineering best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration issues across production and non-production environments.
  • Work with relational and NoSQL databases supporting integration solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to developers.
  • Help establish and continuously improve integration architecture, standards, patterns, and development practices.

Required Qualifications

  • 9+ years of professional software development experience, with significant experience in enterprise application integration.
  • Advanced, hands-on expertise with Java.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot.
  • Proven experience developing microservices and integration applications.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing enterprise integration solutions.
  • Strong understanding of microservices and distributed application architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies, including one or more of:
    • Apache Kafka
    • RabbitMQ
    • ActiveMQ
    • Comparable messaging/event-streaming platforms
  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and integration services.
  • Experience with relational databases, such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle.
  • Experience with Spring Data JPA or comparable persistence frameworks.
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB or Cassandra.
  • Experience with Git or similar version-control platforms.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC and Agile methodologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently while providing technical leadership across an integration team.
  • Experience mentoring developers and providing technical direction.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS and cloud-native/serverless architectures.
  • Experience with serverless technologies and integration patterns across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience building or supporting CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or AWS CloudWatch.
  • Experience designing highly available and fault-tolerant integration solutions in enterprise cloud environments.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a senior, hands-on Integration Lead who can operate effectively across architecture, technical leadership, and development.

They will bring deep Java and Spring Boot expertise, strong experience with APIs, microservices, messaging/event-driven integrations, and enterprise integration patterns, and the ability to lead complex technical initiatives while remaining actively involved in development.

The successful candidate will be able to quickly understand an existing enterprise environment, identify integration requirements and dependencies, establish effective technical patterns, and help the development team deliver reliable, scalable, production-ready integration solutions.
