Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance Functional Consultant – D365 F&O | Manufacturing

Location: Hybrid / Onsite
Employment Type: Contract / Freelance
Hours: Part-Time – Approximately 20 Hours per Week
Initial Intensive Support Period: Approximately 4–8 Weeks
Start Date: ASAP
Onsite Requirement: Onsite presence required; flexibility may be available for a strong candidate

The Opportunity

Our client, an established manufacturing organization, is seeking an experienced Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance Functional Consultant to provide hands-on support during an active Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) implementation.

This is a highly functional, hands-on consulting role supporting the Finance and Accounting team across Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), General Ledger (GL), Credit Management, payments, cheque processing, UAT, configuration and training documentation.

The successful consultant will bring a strong combination of D365 Finance functional/configuration expertise, Finance and Accounting knowledge, and manufacturing industry experience.

This is not a development or coding position. We are looking for someone who knows D365 Finance extremely well from a functional perspective and can quickly understand an issue, determine where it sits within D365, identify the appropriate configuration or business-process solution, and move it toward resolution.

There will be a heavier concentration of work at the beginning of the engagement due to existing items that need to be addressed. The client has flexibility for an excellent candidate who may not be available onsite five days per week.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide hands-on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance functional and configuration support to the Finance and Accounting team.
  • Complete outstanding Azure DevOps (ADO) tasks assigned to the Accounting team.
  • Support D365 Finance functionality across AR, AP, GL, Credit Management, payments, cheque processing and cheque printing.
  • Troubleshoot Finance-related functional issues and determine the appropriate D365 configuration, setup or business-process resolution.
  • Understand and support end-to-end Finance processes within a manufacturing environment, rather than individual transactions in isolation.
  • Understand how an order enters and moves through the business, including the financial impact of receiving, order processing, invoicing, payments and downstream Finance activities.
  • Understand D365 configuration and navigation within areas such as Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger and Credit Management, including where functionality is configured, enabled or disabled.
  • Investigate outstanding functional issues independently and determine the appropriate next steps with minimal direction.
  • Assist the Finance team with User Acceptance Testing (UAT) script development and writing.
  • Translate real-world Finance and manufacturing processes into practical UAT scenarios.
  • Work with the Training Lead to develop Finance-related training documentation and supporting materials.
  • Provide functional information and guidance to the Finance team, project coordinator and broader implementation team.
  • Work collaboratively with senior Finance leadership, including the CFO.
  • Manage multiple Finance-related issues and priorities within a fast-moving implementation environment.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong hands-on experience as a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance Functional Consultant.
  • Demonstrated D365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) implementation experience.
  • Strong functional/configuration knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Accounts Receivable (AR)
    • Accounts Payable (AP)
    • General Ledger (GL)
    • Credit Management
    • Payments and payment processing
    • Cheque processing and printing
  • Strong Finance and Accounting background within a manufacturing environment.
  • Manufacturing industry experience and an understanding of how operational processes such as orders and receiving affect Finance.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end Finance and Accounting business processes and how they translate into D365 configuration and functionality.
  • Ability to troubleshoot D365 Finance functional issues and identify the appropriate configuration or process solution.
  • Ability to understand downstream process dependencies and determine what happens next within an end-to-end business process.
  • Experience supporting UAT, including writing or developing UAT scripts.
  • Experience preparing or contributing to functional documentation and end-user training materials.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within tight timelines while managing multiple priorities.
  • Practical, energetic and results-focused approach.
  • Strong team-player mentality with the ability to work directly with Finance leadership and the CFO.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of functional issues and hit the ground running with minimal ramp-up.
  • Ability to meet the required onsite commitment.

This Role Is 100% Functional

This position is specifically for a D365 Finance Functional Consultant.

No development. No coding.

We need someone who understands how D365 Finance is configured and operated and who can comfortably move throughout the Finance modules to determine what needs to be configured, corrected, enabled, disabled or completed.

You should be comfortable receiving an issue such as a Finance process not functioning as expected, investigating the D365 setup and business process, determining what needs to happen, and getting the item moving toward resolution.

The Ideal Consultant

You are a hands-on D365 Finance specialist who combines strong Finance knowledge with deep Dynamics 365 functional expertise.

You understand the broader business process behind the system. You don’t simply know which screen to use — you understand why a transaction is happening, what its financial impact is, where it goes next, and how D365 needs to be configured to support it.

You are comfortable moving between AR, AP, GL, Credit Management, payments, cheque processing, UAT, configuration, troubleshooting and documentation depending on the priority of the day.

Most importantly, you can join an active implementation, quickly understand the environment and start contributing immediately.

Contract Details

This is a part-time freelance/contract consulting engagement averaging approximately 20 hours per week, requiring flexibility as project priorities change.

There will be a heavier initial workload as the team works through outstanding Finance items, followed by a more regular part-time support requirement.

Onsite presence is required. The anticipated requirement is approximately 2–3 days per week onsite, although the client may consider a strong candidate with different availability. Candidates should clearly identify their onsite availability.

The immediate concentrated Finance support requirement is expected to be approximately 4–8 weeks, with the broader engagement potentially continuing through the implementation and Go-Live based on project requirements.

Immediate availability is strongly preferred.
