Senior Ingres Database Administrator / Linux (RHEL) Systems Specialist

Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Ingres Database Administrator with strong Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration expertise to support and stabilize a mission-critical enterprise environment.

This role is focused on ensuring the operational reliability, recoverability, and ongoing support of a legacy production database platform supporting critical business applications. The successful consultant will lead database administration, Linux platform support, disaster recovery planning, documentation, and production incident response.

Responsibilities

• Administer and support production Ingres database environments
• Provide hands-on administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
• Troubleshoot database, operating system, storage, and infrastructure issues
• Develop and maintain operational runbooks and recovery documentation
• Execute database shutdown, startup, backup, restore, and recovery procedures
• Validate disaster recovery and backup processes
• Monitor database health, capacity, storage utilization, and system performance
• Perform performance tuning and optimization
• Support planned maintenance windows and production changes
• Respond to critical production incidents, including occasional after-hours support
• Conduct root cause analysis and recommend preventative improvements
• Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and security teams
• Deliver technical documentation and knowledge transfer to internal teams

Required Experience

• Extensive production experience administering Ingres databases
• Strong hands-on administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
• Experience with:
  • Database backup and recovery
  • Database performance tuning
  • Production troubleshooting
  • Database startup/shutdown procedures
  • Disaster recovery testing
• Strong Linux administration including:
  • Services
  • Shell/command line
  • File systems
  • Storage
  • Mount points
  • Permissions
  • Scheduled jobs
  • System logs
• Ability to diagnose issues across database, Linux, storage, networking, and application layers
• Experience creating technical documentation, operational runbooks, and recovery procedures
• Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills
• Comfortable working independently within complex enterprise environments

• Recent experience supporting Ingres on RHEL

Work Arrangement
