Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced IT Project Manager to lead the planning and execution of complex, customer-focused technology initiatives. This is an individual contributor/project leadership position with no direct reports, requiring strong project delivery, stakeholder management, vendor coordination, communication, and Agile experience.
The IT Project Manager will oversee initiatives from discovery through implementation, stabilization, and hand-off, working closely with cross-functional teams, business stakeholders, product owners, external vendors, and technology service providers.
The successful candidate must be located in Ottawa and comfortable with the required hybrid work model.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex IT projects from conception and discovery through delivery, implementation, stabilization, and hand-off.
- Develop and manage project plans, charters, schedules, budgets, resources, quality plans, communications, risks, and dependencies.
- Manage project budgets, expenditures, resource allocation, timelines, scope, and overall delivery.
- Identify project risks and issues, assess impacts, and develop appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure project deliverables comply with established PMO standards, processes, tools, methodologies, and quality requirements.
- Work closely with business and technology stakeholders to gather requirements, manage expectations, and provide clear project status and progress updates.
- Partner with Product Owners to manage project opportunities and anticipate current and future business requirements.
- Lead and coordinate cross-functional and multidisciplinary project teams without direct people-management responsibility.
- Coordinate activities across multiple vendors, external partners, technology providers, and internal stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with third-party partners and business stakeholders.
- Lead and support RFP/RFS initiatives, including preparation of documentation, timelines, evaluation criteria, and coordination with Procurement.
- Evaluate projects based on business benefits, scope, cost, schedule, quality, and overall business viability.
- Support Project Sponsors with business cases, project charters, portfolio/project releases, and executive/board documentation.
- Collaborate with Change Management teams to assess impacts to people, processes, and technology and support successful adoption.
- Manage projects using appropriate Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, and SDLC/PDLC methodologies and practices.
- Drive collaboration, knowledge sharing, and project management best practices across technology and business teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of project management standards, processes, and tools.
MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must demonstrate:
- 5+ years of experience as an IT Project Manager.
- 5+ years of relevant functional experience leading customer-focused IT initiatives from conception through completion.
- 3–5+ years of hands-on Agile project management experience.
- PMP certification – REQUIRED.
- Must be located in Ottawa, Ontario.
- Proven experience managing complex technology/IT initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of Agile, Scrum and/or Waterfall project management methodologies.
- Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Product Development Lifecycle (PDLC).
- Experience managing project budgets, resource allocation, schedules, risks, dependencies, and scope.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams.
- Experience managing relationships with external vendors/technology service providers, business stakeholders, and technology teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools.
NICE-TO-HAVE / ASSET EXPERIENCE
- Experience within the postal, logistics, transportation, or related industry.
- Knowledge of mail movement or postal operations.
- RFP/RFS process experience.
- Experience working within a unionized environment.
- Experience managing distributed Agile teams.
- Experience with Scaled Agile delivery.
- TMS (Transportation Management System) experience.
- Experience with UPU (Universal Postal Union).
- IPS experience.
- Mobile solutions experience.
- Power BI experience.
- English/French bilingualism.
- Agile certifications such as CSM, PMI-ACP, PSM or SAFe Agilist.
- ITIL 4, PRINCE2, Management of Risk or P3O certifications.
