Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Shopify Developer for an immediate contract engagement focused on designing, developing, and delivering scalable e-commerce solutions within the Shopify ecosystem.

This is a senior, hands-on backend development role requiring strong experience with Shopify architecture, custom application development, GraphQL APIs, enterprise integrations, data modelling, and platform customization.

The successful candidate will have proven experience developing and maintaining custom Shopify applications and integrating Shopify with enterprise platforms such as ERP, CRM, PIM, OMS, and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).

Deep expertise with the Shopify Admin API, particularly GraphQL, is important. Experience with Shopify Functions, Checkout Extensibility, Metafields, Metaobjects, webhooks, and Shopify Plus is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and document scalable and reliable Shopify backend solutions, including application architecture, data models, APIs, and integration patterns.
• Design, build, deploy, and maintain custom Shopify applications, including private and public apps.
• Develop backend applications and services using Node.js, Ruby, Python, PHP, or comparable modern backend technologies.
• Work extensively with the Shopify Admin API, with a strong emphasis on the GraphQL Admin API.
• Design and implement integrations between Shopify and enterprise platforms, including ERP, CRM, PIM, OMS, WMS, and custom/third-party APIs.
• Build reliable data synchronization and integration processes between Shopify and external business systems.
• Model complex product and business data using Shopify Metafields and Metaobjects.
• Develop and deploy Shopify Functions to support custom business logic for discounts, shipping, payments, and other commerce requirements.
• Implement checkout functionality and integrations using Shopify Checkout Extensibility.
• Configure and manage Shopify webhooks to enable reliable, real-time, event-driven integrations.
• Develop resilient integrations incorporating appropriate error handling, retries, monitoring, validation, and recovery mechanisms.
• Collaborate with frontend developers to provide required APIs, data, and backend services.
• Translate business and e-commerce requirements into effective technical designs and implementation specifications.
• Optimize Shopify applications and integrations for performance, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and security.
• Troubleshoot complex issues involving Shopify applications, APIs, integrations, and data flows.
• Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, testing, deployment, and ongoing platform enhancements.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience, with significant experience supporting e-commerce platforms and solutions.
• Strong hands-on experience developing and architecting solutions within the Shopify ecosystem.
• Proven professional Shopify development experience.
• Deep hands-on expertise with the Shopify Admin API, particularly:
  • GraphQL Admin API
  • REST Admin API
• Advanced GraphQL development experience.
• Demonstrated experience designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining custom Shopify Apps.
• Strong understanding of core e-commerce processes, including:
  • Product and catalogue management
  • Inventory
  • Orders and order fulfilment
  • Payments
  • Customer data
  • Shipping
• Strong backend development skills with one or more of:
  • Node.js / JavaScript / TypeScript
  • Ruby
  • Python
  • PHP
• Proven experience integrating Shopify with third-party and enterprise systems.
• Experience designing, developing, and consuming APIs and integration services.
• Strong understanding of data modelling, data synchronization, and integration patterns.
• Strong system design, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and deliver effectively within a fast-paced contract environment.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with technical teams and business stakeholders.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Hands-on experience developing and deploying Shopify Functions.
• Experience with Shopify Checkout Extensibility.
• Experience with Shopify Plus, including its features and APIs.
• Strong experience working with Shopify Metafields and Metaobjects.
• Cloud application experience with AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Heroku.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as RabbitMQ, Amazon SQS, or comparable platforms.
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
• Experience with Docker and containerized applications.
• Understanding of modern DevOps principles and practices.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a senior, hands-on Shopify Developer who combines strong backend engineering skills with deep technical knowledge of the Shopify ecosystem.

This individual goes beyond basic storefront or theme development and has experience building technically complex Shopify solutions involving custom apps, GraphQL APIs, enterprise integrations, webhooks, Metafields/Metaobjects, Shopify Functions, and Checkout Extensibility.

They understand how Shopify operates within a broader enterprise commerce architecture and can build secure, scalable, production-ready integrations connecting Shopify with ERP, OMS, PIM, CRM, WMS, and other business-critical platforms.
