Title: Teradata DBA Database Administrator

Location: REMOTE

Type: Contract

Duration: 1 years with high probability of multi-year extensions

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Creating, maintaining, and supporting Teradata architectural environment
  • Working with creation of databases, tables, views, users, and granting them access
  • Working with the development teams with design, implementation, and performance tuning of new and existing applications
  • Performing database backup and recovery operations
  • Developing of pro-active processes for monitoring capacity and performance tuning
  • Supporting the application development teams for database needs and guidance
  • Providing day to day support for the EDW users problems like job hands, slowdowns, inconsistent rows, re-validating headers for tables with RI constraints, PPIs and configuration
  • Supporting Teradata patch and upgrades collaborating with Teradata team and interfacing with the application sub vendors
  • Supporting backup and restore/retrieval process – using the BAR DSA and NetBackup. Create, implement, and maintain BAR strategy for the Teradata (TD) application and system databases
  • Maintaining rules set in TASM and supporting workload management. Maintaining the Teradata Workload Manager with the proper partitions and workloads based on Service Levels
  • Supporting the database system and application server support for the Disaster Recovery (DR) build/test, annual drill, and quarterly maintenance as needed
  • Actively monitoring the health of the Teradata system and Teradata Managed Servers (TMS) using Viewpoint and other tools and application servers and make preventive or corrective actions as needed
  • Maintaining access rights, role rights, priority scheduling, and reporting using dynamic workload manager, Database Query Log (DBQL), usage collections and reporting of ResUsage, AmpUsage, security administration etc.
  • Coordinating with the team and customers in supporting database needs and make necessary changes to meet the business, contractual, security, performance, and reporting needs
  • Supporting internal or external audit process and address vulnerabilities or risk proactively. Prepare and support IRS audit
  • Coordinating with Teradata to perform Teradata system hardening and delivery SCSEM Reports as needed addressing issues in the hardening and vulnerability scan report
  • Generating and maintaining capacity management, Space, and CPU reports on analyzing the Spool, CPU, I/O, Usage, and Storage resources and proactive monitoring to meet performance and growth requirements
  • Reviewing and resolving Teradata alerts and communicate any risk / issues or impact to the management, team, and business users through appropriate communication strategy
  • Creating Teradata incident on issues, tracking using TAYS, setting appropriate priorities, monitoring and controlling, and work with Teradata to resolve the issues promptly
  • Performing additional duties that are normally associated with this position, as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of experience as a Teradata DBA on Version 14+
  • 5+ years of SQL experience
  • 3+ years ETL using Teradata Utilities in a Unix/Linux environment
  • 3+ years performance tuning in a large database (>5TB) or data warehouse environment, using advanced SQL, DBQL and Explain plans
  • 3+ years analyzing project requirements and developing detailed database specifications
  • 3+ years identifying and initiating resolutions to customer problems and concerns associated with a
  • Data Warehouse or equivalent system

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years identifying and initiating resolutions to customer problems and concerns associated with a Data Warehouse or equivalent system
  • 5+ years logical and physical data modeling experience
  • 5+ years with Erwin or other data modeling software
  • 3+ years working with end users/customers to understand requirements for technical solutions to meet business needs
  • 3+ years working with technical developers to strategize solutions to align with business requirements
  • 3+ years defining standards and best practices and conducting code reviews
  • Experience in Application Server Hardware/Software Administration (Windows/Linux)
  • Experience in SharePoint
  • Knowledge in ETL process, Unix, and Windows Scripting
  • Knowledge/Experience in Agile
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, end client facing, team collaboration, and mentoring skills
  • Ability to proactively learn and support overall system administration, support hardware/software maintenance, and leading data management activities
  • Training developers in how best to design queries for a specific database
  • Working with lead / management, business users, SMEs/BA, developers, application administrators, architect/modelers, and coordinating with hardware / software sub vendors
  • Installing, configuring and administering Microsoft SQL Server on Windows Server
  • Performing application servers backups and recovery using Veritas Backup Exec 2012/above
  • Analyzing IBM Tivoli logs and responds to alerts and errors
  • Monitoring of SAN storage with the knowledge and ability to react to alerts and errors
  • Configuring and managing HP MSA Storage arrays
  • Installing, configuring and administering Windows Server 2008 R2 or higher platforms on HP DLT
